The bay forms part of a long stretch of sandy beach which extends for almost 5 miles to Llanddulas, The beach is popular for windsurfing, kayaking and kite surfing, and is accessed across the promenade from a large car park. Behind the promenade is Kinmel Dunes Local Nature Reserve, a small sand dune system which is home to a variety of native maritime plants and bird life; seals can also sometimes be seen close to the shore. Wheelchair access is possible along the promenade and also along paths leading through the dunes. Pentremawr beach at the eastern end of the promenade has a cafe and toilets and the town of Rhyl, a mile to the east, has a full range of shops, cafes and other services. The North Wales Coast Path runs parallel to the shore and allows a pleasant walk along the seafront. The national cycle route 5 also runs along the coast here and provides excellent cycling.
