Because of the ease of access for cars it is a popular spot for picnics and also for motor boats and water bikes which have a special zone designated for their use. Access for disabled people is good. The beach lies within the area designated as the Lleyn Peninsula and the Sarnau Special Area of Conservation (SAC), comprising 3 rocky reefs extending up to 24 km out to sea and home to an amazing variety of underwater landscapes, flora and fauna. The dune system is also protected through its designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

West on the A487 through Penrhyndeudraeth and straight on at the roundabout (signed for Porthmadog). Turn left in the town in between the Post Office and a Factory Shop (signed Morfa Bychan/Black Rock) and in Morfa Bychan, turn left where signed for Traeth/Beach. This road ends at the beach - you can park on the beach.
