Moel Famau Country Park, 2000 acres of important upland landscape, and forms part of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding natural Beauty (AONB).

The Park has an impressive landscape of colourful heather moorland, changing to greener grassland pastures on its lower slopes. A few windblown rowan trees and hawthorn bushes stand out amongst the gorse and bilberry. The park is also an important habitat for many birds of prey and mammals.

Rising to 554m Moel Famau forms the highest point on the Clwydian Range summit chain. Access is straightforward from Bwlch Pen Barras car park and Coed Moel Famau car park. At the top lie the ruins of the Jubilee Tower, an iconic monument visible from all directions, with a wonderful outlook across North Wales and North West England.

You can walk through the forest from the Coed Moel Famau car park to the summit of Moel Famau. There are several other circular walks of different lengths from the Coed Moel Famau car park and a mountain bike trail which is graded blue (moderate difficulty). For younger visitors, there is the Forest Tracker Trail and the popular Hawk's Nest play area.

Jubilee Tower Circular Walk 3.5 miles / 5.5 kilometres
This trail climbs steeply but steadily to the Jubilee Tower at the top of Moel Famau and returns through mixed forest or open countryside. Moel Famau is the highest summit in the Clwydian Range (554 metres/1818 feet) and offers one of most spectacular views in Wales.

Moel y Gaer Circular Trail 5.5 miles / 9 kilometres
The Moel y Gaer Circular Trail is a steady climb to the Jubilee Tower at the top of Moel Famau. The trail returns through open countryside and skirts Moel y Gaer and its fascinating Iron Age hillfort.

Loggerheads Country Park

The Clwydian Range Centre next to the car park in Loggerheads Country Park is an ideal place to find out more about the Clwydian Range and get a walking guide or map. This is an ideal place to gather information about the Clwydian Range and buy your countryside essentials. From maps to Nordic Poles and wildlife ID sheets. Open everyday exc Xmas eve/day. Coed Llangwyfan Woodland

This 85 hectare woodland rises very steeply from the stream at its base and up on the summit slopes of the Clwydian Hill near Penycloddiau. Great views and short walks. Offa's Dyke passes across the top of the woodland OS Grid Ref: SJ138667

Coed Nercwys Woodland

Nercwys is coniferous woodland proving excellent habitat for wildlife, especially Nightjars which have flourished in this area. You may spot other birds such as Buzzards, Gold Crest and Coal Tits. OS Grid Ref: SJ218593

Ffridd Mountain Circular

The mountain biking trail is waymarked and starts from the car park. The Rode North Wales website has more information on mountain biking in Wales

Forest Tracker - animal puzzle trail

As well as the walking trails above a trail through an arboretum which contains all of the UK's native tree species.

There is a numeracy trail for teachers to use with pupils and an outdoor classroom area at the back of the arboretum

Moel Famau Country Park is at the heart of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Coed Nercwys Circular Trail

Coed Nercwys Forest is a conifer woodland which provides an excellent habitat for wildlife – look out for birds such as buzzards, gold crest and coal tits.

The all ability trail is a short, picturesque route that meanders across and alongside a stream.

Facilities include:
disabled parking
disabled toilets

The toilets are open from 8am to 6pm (October to March) and from 8am to 9pm (April to September).

Play area:

The popular Hawk's Nest play area encourages children to learn and explore the woodland environment.

It is suitable for children aged 2 to 14 years and includes:
a giant Sleepy Cedar to climb inside
a Giant Hawk’s Nest to climb and crawl through
a Bird Cradle to swing inside
Stones Flow to splash and paddle in.

There is a numeracy trail for teachers to use with their pupils and an outdoor classroom area at the back of the arboretum.

Road Directions

Coed Moel Famau is three miles south west of Mold, signposted off the A494. From Mold take the A494. Follow this road through the towns of Gwernymynydd and Loggerheads, until you come to a junction with 'Moel Famau Country Park' signposted to the right. Follow this road for 1 mile, you will see the car park on your right hand side.
