About

Tycanol is a 170-acre woodland site in North Pembrokeshire which is of huge importance to scientists and an inspiration to artists and visitors.

The site is owned by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and is managed in partnership with Natural Resources Wales. It is one of six Welsh wood pasture sites of international importance, due to its rich and diverse lichens.

A designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), National Nature Reserve (NNR) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Tycanol is home to more than 400 species of lichens.

In total the National Park Authority owns 250 hectares of woodland which is managed by its woodland team.

Road Directions

Access on foot via a network of public and permissive paths and a bridleway from Pentre Ifan entrance and Tycanol farm entrance track. There is parking at the National Park Authority’s Sychpant Car Park at the beginning of the track to Pentre Ifan farm.

Travelling from Newport on the A487, turn right at the Nevern crossroads and take the minor road to Sychpant Cross.

Accessible by Public Transport: Fishguard & Goodwick station is 12 miles away.
