Eisteddfod yr Urdd Eisteddfod

About

This will be the first time since 1988 that the Urdd Eisteddfod has visited Maldwyn (Montgomeryshire)  and it will be held on the fields of Mathrafal Farm by Meifod near Welshpool.

The Urdd National Eisteddfod, one of Europe’s largest youth touring festivals that attracts around 90,000 visitors each year, will be held during Whitsun week at the end of May.

The Eisteddfod is a competitive festival with over 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25 competing during the Eisteddfod week in various competitions such as singing, dancing and performing. They are the elite few from around 40,000 competitors across Wales who have won their place following local and regional rounds held in the spring months leading up to the Eisteddfod.

The 1,800 seater Pavilion is the home of the competitions and is very much the hub of the Eisteddfod. Surrounding the Pavilion, on the ‘Maes’, you will find hundreds of colourful stalls offering a range of activities for all the family - from biking, climbing and sport sessions to a fun fair, live bands and children’s shows with some well known TV characters. In a recent survey conducted by Beauford Research, 97% of the visitors agreed that it was a great family day out.

The Urdd Eisteddfod week is the pinnacle of around three years hard work by local volunteers. It attracts a lot of attention from the press including TV, radio and local and national newspapers.

Dyma fydd y tro cyntaf ers 1988 i Eisteddfod yr Urdd ymweld â’r ardal.

Bydd Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Urdd, un o wyliau teithiol ieuenctid mwyaf Ewrop sy’n denu tua 90,000 o ymwelwyr bob blwyddyn, yn cael ei chynnal unwaith eto yn ystod wythnos y Sulgwyn ddiwedd mis Mai.

Mae’r Eisteddfod yn ŵyl gystadleuol gyda dros 15,000 o blant a phobl ifanc o dan 25 oed yn cystadlu yn ystod wythnos yr Eisteddfod mewn cystadlaethau amrywiol megis canu, dawnsio a pherfformio. Nhw yw’r ychydig elitaidd o tua 40,000 o gystadleuwyr ledled Cymru sydd wedi ennill eu lle yn dilyn rowndiau lleol a rhanbarthol a gynhaliwyd yn ystod misoedd y gwanwyn cyn yr Eisteddfod.

Y Pafiliwn gyda 1,800 o seddi yw cartref y cystadlaethau a dyma ganolbwynt yr Eisteddfod. O amgylch y Pafiliwn, ar y Maes, fe welwch gannoedd o stondinau lliwgar yn cynnig amrywiaeth o weithgareddau i'r teulu cyfan - o feicio, dringo a sesiynau chwaraeon i ffair hwyl, bandiau byw a sioeau plant gyda rhai cymeriadau teledu adnabyddus . Mewn arolwg diweddar a gynhaliwyd gan Beauford Research, cytunodd 97% o'r ymwelwyr ei fod yn ddiwrnod allan gwych i'r teulu.
