About

This 2.5 circular mile walk starts in the centre of Newtown and largely circles around the western boundaries of Newtown. It will take you along the River Severn and has some road and off-road walking.

This walk should take around 2 hours. It is a circular route that starts and ends in the centre of Newtown, mainly along the mighty river Severn and tributary streams together with some road and off -road walking. It returns to town through woods and finally alongside industrial and residential areas. The walk largely circles around the western boundaries of Newtown.

The walk starts under the Town Clock at the intersection of Broad St, High St, Shortbridge St, and Severn St. The Cross Buildings were erected by Sarah Brisco to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee in 1897. Opposite the clock on Severn Street is the Robert Owen museum. Robert Owen was the founder of the cooperative movement and is one of Newtown’s most famous sons. The museum also houses the Newtown Tourist Information Centre.
