Railway Event

Railway Event

With the nights drawing in and the weather uncertain, it can be difficult to plan days out for half term. Here at the Gwili Railway we have something for all ages and all weather.

At this heritage railway, the line runs alongside the village cricket pitch, farmland and then through a steep sided valley beside the picturesque Gwili River. With 4.8 miles length of track, the station buildings, vintage carriages, steam locomotives and diesel railcar give you an authentic taste of the golden age of the railways.

It's an ideal morning or afternoon stop off. Or come dine with us: enjoy elevenses or lunch either in The Victorian Tea Rooms or try our scrumptious Afternoon Strawberry Cream Tea on board the Bronwydd Belle our vintage dining car (Thursdays only).

Half Term Activities for children:
Visit the restored 1885 Signal Box and meet the Signalman who works the signals that guide the trains
See the scale model of Bronwydd Arms Station in the Victorian Tea Room
Pull the signals and ring the bells in the Museum
ms and see how it looked at the beginning of the last century when Bronwydd was just a hamlet
Have fun with the Thomas Play Table in the Victorian Tea Rooms
Meet Ben the steam locomotive who pulls the Miniature Railway (a ride is included in your ticket price - big kids can ride on too!)
Climb aboard a static steam locomotive undergoing restoration at Llwyfan Cerrig
Visit the Travelling Post Office and see how the mail was sorted when letters were delivered by train
See a restored Great Western Railway horse wagon used to carry horses during World War II, known by the volunteers as The War Horse Wagon
Look out for the London Midland Scottish (LMS) crane being restored by the volunteers
Play coites in the riverside Picnic Site (on a dry day)
Visit the Edwardian waiting room and ticket office and imagine you are waiting for a train in a country station 100 years ago
Don't forget to visit our souvenir shop where you can find pocket money toys, Thomas the Tank Engine and Peter's Railway books and a range of model railway kit as well as toys, gifts and second hand railway books

The Scenic Explorer diesel heritage railcar will be taking to the line to give our steam locomotives some much needed R&R. They will be going out of service to prepare for our Santa Specials in December.
