Cowbridge Music Festival

Details

Cowbridge Music Festival celebrates 10 years of world-class music-making in the charming setting of the Welsh Countryside.

Running from 6 – 21 September, Cowbridge Music Festival places classical music alongside jazz, vocal and world music in the picturesque old market town of Cowbridge, in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Combining a hugely successful and innovative outreach programme, the tenth Cowbridge Music Festival comprises more than 30 events across 16 days. With its bold and exciting programme, this unique festival annually attracts visitors from both its local region and beyond.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

Saxophonist Jess Gillam, one of the UK's most exciting young musicians, opens the 10th festival with a show-stopping recital which will include works by Ravel, Britten, Nyman, Harle, Dowland and Milhaud.

Associate Artist of Cowbridge Music Festival, Welsh pianist Llyr Williams will mark the festival’s tenth anniversary with an exceptional recital featuring works by Schumann, Liszt and Chopin

Celebrating female artists both past and present, the festival showcases Syrian artist Maya Youssef playing the qanun, a 78 stringed Middle Eastern plucked zither. The festival will also include a concert dedicated to the music of Clara Schumann including a performance of her Piano Trio, Op. 17

One of the highlights of the festival is the Cowbridge Music Festival Chamber Music Week: A ground-breaking young artist development initiative for post-conservatoire students, preparing them for a professional chamber music career. This year, another ten exceptional chamber musicians from across the UK are brought together for a week of intensive rehearsals and workshops, culminating in two concerts at the festival

In response to popular demand, guitarist Remi Harris makes his return to the festival with an eclectic mix of gypsy swing, jazz and blues. Described by Jamie Cullum as “an extraordinary musician”, Remi’s unique style draws inspiration from artists such as Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery and Led Zeppelin

The Aronowitz Piano Trio makes their first appearance at Cowbridge this year featuring pianist Tom Poster alongside violinist Magnus Johnston and cellist Pierre Doumenge. The trio will perform works by greats such as Haydn, Schubert and Schumann
