Calling all Book Worms - The Cardiff Children's Literature Festival is back at Cardiff Castle Undercroft. Children under 12 yrs must be accompanied by a paying adult.

21 April 10am - When the Mountains Roared with Jess Butterworth
Language: English; Age Suitability 7+
Take a journey to the mountains of India with author Jess Butterworth as she shares the inspirations and real life experiences behind her new book When the Mountains Roared. Jess will share stories from her childhood, split between the UK and India, and the Uncle who raised a leopard cub who helped inspire her latest novel. When the Mountains Roared is a vivid, warm and atmospheric adventure set in the mountains of India, about a girl who is determined to protect the wild leopards of the mountain from poachers.

21 April 12 noon - Bad Mermaids with Sibéal Pounder

Think you know all there is to know about Mermaids? Let Sibéal Pounder set the record straight with her fantastic new series, Bad Mermaids! Mermaids Beattie, Mimi and Zelda return from their gap year on land to find something is rotten in the city of Swirlyshell! It’s up to them (and talking seahorse Steve) to stop some seriously Bad Mermaids!

21 April 2pm - Lliwiau Byd Natur with Luned Aaron
Language: WELSH; Age Suitability 0+
Come and celebrate Luned Aaron’s new book, Lliwiau Byd Natur (Carreg Gwalch). Last year, Luned won the Tir na-nOg award for ABC Byd Natur. Nature is colourful and full of wonders. In this workshop, children will get the opportunity to create their own wonders, inspired by colours of the natural world.

22 April 12 noon - Gaspard the Fox with Zeb Soanes and James Mayhew

Meet Gaspard the Fox as he sets out one summer evening in search of something to eat. On his travels he meets a haughty cat named Peter and Finty, an adventurous little dog who helps him navigate the local canal festival with brightly decorated boats in his hunt for supper. A charming and humorous picture book celebrating urban foxes and their relationship with the humans and animals with whom they share the city. First in a series of picture books following the adventures of Gaspard and his friends. Learn about urban foxes with BBC broadcaster and author Zeb Soanes and see how to draw one with award-winning illustrator James Mayhew. Book signing includes a paw-print from Gaspard.

22 April 2pm - The Big Book of the Blue creative workshop with Yuval Zommer
English Language; Age Suitability 4+
Welcome to The Big Book of the Blue! The latest non fiction title in Yuval Zommer's acclaimed nature series. Find out fascinating facts about slippery, shimmery and surprising sea creatures from Yuval’s new book including sea turtles, whales, sharks, rays, seahorses and many more. Children will learn all about the most exciting creatures from the deep blue in this fun talk which will be followed by an illustration session, where everyone will get to create their own unique underwater creatures with Yuval’s help.

22 April 4pm - Miss Prydderch with Mererid Hopwood
Language: WELSH; Age Suitability 9+
Hop on the magic carpet and listen to Mererid Hopwood, former Bardd Plant Cymru, read from her series Miss Prydderch. Where would you travel to on a magic carpet?

28 April 11am -Thimble Holiday Havoc with Jon Blake
Language: English; Age Suitability 7+
Jams lives with his mum, dad and his best friend Thimble, a hugely clever monkey who isn’t Dad’s biggest fan. (Don’t tell anyone what Thimble did with the superglue...) 28 April 1pm - Story Time with Bethan Gwanas
Language: Welsh; Age Suitability 4+
Get to hear the award-winning author, Bethan Gwanas read from her books, Coeden Cadi and Cadi dan y Dwr and learn where she gets her inspiration from. You’ll also get to hear a new tale where Cadi is in the land of dinosaurs! Also, you’ll get to draw pictures and draw and colour fairies, mermaids and dinosaurs!

28 April 3pm - Nick Cope's Songbook
Language: English; Age Suitability 4+
Join popular singer-songwriter Nick Cope as he sings the songs from his books Why is the Sky Blue?, I Don’t Wanna Do That and (The Story of the) Very Silly Dog. Nick’s hilarious, uplifting, and poignant songs have garnered acclaim from audiences all around the world including comedians Stewart Lee and Lucy Porter. With his songs about Headlice, Dogs eating soap and Dragons visiting second hand shops, Nick’s concerts are a treat for adults and children of all ages. Great entertainment for the whole family!

The Interpretation Centre is fully accessible to wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, including the Firing Line exhibition, film presentation, café and shop. Disabled toilets are located adjacent to the café on the ground floor. The Castle Apartments are not accessible to wheelchair users or pushchairs due to the number of steps within the house. Audio Guides are available in 10 languages and include a sign-language and visually-impaired tours (in English and Welsh).
