National Botanic Garden of Wales

National Botanic Garden of Wales

Details

Daffodil Day will help you to understand the subtle, and not so subtle differences between our daffodils.

As Wales’ national flower, it makes perfect sense for the magnificent daffodil to be so well represented at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Since opening in 2000, the Garden has shown over 50 varieties of this showy, distinctive beauty.

But what exactly is a daffodil? The classic depiction on the lapels of proud Welsh men and women on St.David’s Day is of a large trumpeted yellow flower. But Springtime visitors to the Garden could also find varieties with more orange, pink, green or white colours than yellow. They may notice the mixture of sizes, the complex array of flower structures and if they were to lean forward and sniff, some sweet and subtle scents.

Daffodil Day will help you to understand the subtle, and not so subtle differences between our daffodils. There will be an indoor talk by co-author of the Garden’s new Daffodils booklet, Dr.Kevin McGinn, Growing the Future’s Science Officer, an outdoor tour of the Garden’s late Spring daffodil collections and an exhibition of daffodil photographs by Mike Danford, a photographer and volunteer in the Garden’s Library, in our Oriel Yr Ardd Gallery.

Don’t miss your chance to pick up some great daffodil varieties in our Y Pot Blodyn Plant Sales.
