OrganFest 2019: Gala concert with David Briggs

OrganFest happens every two years thanks to the collaboration of three national organisations: the British Institute of Organ Studies (BIOS), the Incorporated Association of Organists (IAO) and the Royal College of Organists (RCO), the three UK bodies which represent organists and organ studies. OrganFest 2019 is the fifth OrganFest since the series was founded in 2014. The last OrganFest was in Hull in 2017, when it was UK City of Culture.

The Welsh capital will host OrganFest 2019. A biennial national event, OrganFest this year will be held at landmark churches in Cardiff, at the National Museum and at St David’s Hall, and a gala organ concert.

This Gala organ recital at Llandaff Cathedral by international concert organist David Briggs (Artist-in-Residence, St John the Divine, New York & Organist Emeritus, Gloucester Cathedral) explores the recently installed and acclaimed organ by Nicholson & Co. David’s programme will feature repertoire and, from this astonishing exponent of the art of extemporisation, a symphonic improvisation of more than 30 minutes on three Welsh melodies.
