Archaeological Dig

Help us to welcome Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust (CPAT) back to Chirk Castle for a second year of archaeological investigation in the parkland. Join a guided walk to find out more, or feel free to ask the team questions.

Booking not needed.

Throughout the two week period we will be opening up three dig sites in the parkland. One will continue our exploration of the 8th-century Scheduled Ancient Monument of Offa's Dyke, the second will search an area of woodland for the site of a building shown on 18th Century maps, and the third will look for evidence of the early 18th Century formal gardens following revealing parchmarks last summer.

Volunteer guided walks to the Offa's Dyke site will take place daily (when the Archaeology team is on site - if in doubt contact us before visiting). The second two sites are located along the visitor route, so feel free to ask questions of the volunteers and archaeologists.
