Pond Gazing

Pond Gazing

Gaze into the depths of our pond to discover a secret underwater world. Our pond is full of life, all you need to do is take a closer look! So join us to learn about the many creatures that call our pond home. Because some of the residents are great crested newts we will not be pond dipping or using nets as they don’t like to be disturbed!

Families will lie or kneel to get closer to the pond and look for the life within. We hope to see: Below the water: back swimmers, efts (baby newts), water beetles, beetle larvae. On the surface: pond skaters, dragon flies, damsel flies. We will also have lots of information about the creatures in the pond and a tally board of the most seen creatures. We will be talking to visitors about the importance of ponds as habitats and encouraging them to create their own at home.
