World MTB Chariot Racing Championships

World MTB Chariot Racing Championships

Details

In conjunction with the Saturnalia Winter Warmer Real Ale Festival being held in the town, Green Events are offering you another chance to become a world champion, and all you have to do is pedal your mountain bikes the fastest.

Special chariots built using traditional Roman mild steel, vulcanised rubber and welding techniques have been commissioned for the event, and will race against each other and the clock to determine this year's World Champions. Designed to be pulled by two mountain bikes alongside each other, the winning team will have to demonstrate exceptional skill and courage, and will need to coordinate and cooperate fully as a single unit to overcome all challengers. The event is open to teams of three people (2 riders + 1 charioteer) over the age of 16 years. The entry fee is £25 per team.

The event takes place in the grounds of the Abernant Lake Hotel, near to Llanwrtyd railway station. The course comprises a ½ mile circuit around the grounds, partially on tarmac road (with speed bumps!), and partly on rough track. Chariots will race against each other in pairs, and will also be timed. The fastest four teams in these one lap heats will take part in a grand final of two laps to determine themoverall World Champions. Heats will be run in the order of
entries received, so the earlier you enter the longer the rest you will have between your heat and the final, should you make it.

A world cup and medals are awarded to the winning team, with medals and a cup for the second and third teams and the Ladies’ World Champion Team. There will also be prizes for the best Roman costumes, and all teams will receive a certificate recording their achievement in the contest. Competitors assemble 11:30am, Racing commences 12 noon.
