Manor Wood Leap

Manor Wood Leap

Details

There are two walks that start from here,

Manor Brook Leap (1 mile, 1.5 kilometres).
This is a challenging streamside circular trail, which isn’t called the Manor Brook Leap for nothing as it crosses the stream in several places! You will also encounter uneven ground on your way to the Whitebrook Valley viewpoint

Manor Wood Walk (One and three quarter miles, 3 kilometres).
This is a tranquil circular walk with some climbs. It also leads you to the Whitebrook Valley viewpoint where you will find a bench to sit and admire the view.

This peaceful scene was once a hive of activity. The pure waters of the Whitebrook were particularly suitable for paper making. There are people living today who remember carts of rags being taken up to the paper mills. There was also a corn mill and cider mill, and you can see remnants of both charcoal and sawing pits.

Manor Wood has a small car park with a picnic site and rustic children's play area where you can let the kids run wild. The real pull is the woodland and the meandering Manor Brook that burbles around gnarled tree roots. Wellies are the order of the day as the woodland path meanders across the stream bed, offering the opportunity for plenty of messy water play.

If you visit during spring be sure to seek out the bluebells that carpet and perfume the woodland. Follow the path beyond the play area, and continue down hill to get the best views.

Directions:

Head along the B4235 Monmouth to Chepstow road. At Trelleck take the turning opposite the church onto Greenway lane signposted The Narth and follow for 1 1/2 miles. Bear right as you approach The Narth and the Natural Resources Wales Manor Wood car park is located about 1/2 mile on the left.
