The Llandeilo Festival of Music 2019

The Llandeilo Festival of Music 2019

Since the very inception of the Festival, in 2001, it has sought to deliver not only unrivalled artistic excellence but also a considerable degree of musical variety, in its quest to meet the differing demands of its discerning followers. This has resulted in some memorable performances of choral, instrumental and vocal music.

This year’s event will continue that established tradition and will see the Festival welcoming some truly exciting performers to Llandeilo, whether as solo recitalists or as members of distinguished ensembles which will have already received both national and international acclaim. Thus, we can look forward to hearing the remarkable, award-winning, Heath String Quartet and the innovative and exciting Apaches Piano Trio. Before that the National Trust’s iconic Newton House will have played host to what promises to be an unforgettable display of technical virtuosity from the outstanding flautist, Juliette Bausor, and the sensational young Mexican guitarist, Morgan Szymanski. Winners of the Oxford Lieder Young Artists Platform Award, soprano Harriet Burns and pianist Michael Pandya will be treating us to a programme of intriguing variety, with American composers Samuel Barber and Leonard Bernstein sharing the platform with Schubert, in a programme which promises to be both inspiring and rich in humour. Then there will be our very own Festival ‘discovery’, Welsh pianist Luke Jones, whose career has taken off quite spectacularly since he last appeared at the Festival.

As ever, the Festival programme will be ‘book-ended’ by two contrasting choral performances, with the John S. Davies Singers joining forces with leading organist, Huw Tregelles Williams, in a performance of Dvorak’s beautiful Mass in D Op 86. This will be a lovely way in which to start such a special event and we look forward to welcoming you to St.Teilo’s for what will surely be a week of sheer musical delight.
