Details

Ludlow is a market town in Shropshire with a population of 11,000; it is located 28 miles south of Shrewsbury and 23 miles north of Hereford. The town is significant in the history of the Welsh Marches and neighbouring Wales which is 14 miles to the west. The oldest part of Ludlow is the medieval walled town, founded in the late C11th after the Norman conquest of England. It is centred on a small hill, the site of Ludlow Castle and the parish church, and from here the streets slope downward to the River Teme, and northward toward the River Corve. The town has nearly 500 listed buildings, mainly Georgian or half-timbered and a lively market, food fairs, speciality food shops and a wide range of restaurants and inns have helped Ludlow to become the gastronomic capital of the region.

Ludlow is a gateway to the Welsh Marches and the border towns of Knighton and Presteigne. Ludlow railway station is on the South Wales to North Wales route between Newport and Shrewsbury.
