After the gold rush

In light of COVID-19, please make sure you check with your travel and activity or attraction providers before travelling. You can get the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 in Wales at the Public Health Wales website.

2,000 years ago, the powerful Romans left behind a glimpse of gold-mining methods. The harsh mining environment continued in the 19th and 20th centuries, ending in 1938.

Guided tours take you back to experience the conditions of the Roman, Victorian and 1930s underground workings. Tours run throughout the day, free of charge (book on arrival, places limited). Free audio tour and self-guided Roman walk over-looking the 1930s mine yard.

See and hear the 1930s mine and mine machinery. Have a go at gold panning and take the opportunity to experience the frustrations of searching for real gold.

Roman Tour - Walk back in time on our Roman tour. Explore the mine and see marks left by Roman tools. Approx 1 hour.

Victorian Tour - Get kitted up with your hard hat and lamp and delve deep into the landscape with your guide into the Victorian workings. Approx 1 hour.

Long adit Tour- This is our shortest underground tour and is wheelchair friendly. Please ask at Visitor Information Centre if you'd like a tour of Long Adit. Approx 30 minutes.

You must be over 95cm in height to go on an underground tour. Please wear stout footwear as there are some uneven surfaces.
