About

Dolwyddelan is a village with a population of just under 500 situated on the A470 road between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Betws-y-Coed; its name refers to the 5th or 6th century Saint Gwyddelan.

Dolwyddelan Castle was a stronghold of the Welsh Princes, built between about 1210 and 1240 by Llywelyn the Great, ruler of Snowdonia, to control a strategic pass through his mountainous kingdom.

The village has a station on the Conwy Valley line between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog.
