Whitmore Bay has been popular with tourists since the late 19th Century and in the summer months the place buzzes with street theatre and live music. There are horse carriage rides operated along the beach, as well as seafront shops. The excellent water quality makes the beach popular with swimmers and paddlers. Beach wheelchairs are available for hire from the Tourist Information Centre during the summer months. Above the beach are the remains of a Norman Chapel and an information board with details of how to follow the Barry Town Trail, which is a wonderful way to discover more about Barry and Barry Island. The town trail links the town to the waterfront and Barry Island and highlights places of interest along its 6 mile route.
