The Elan Valley Trail is a linear path following the line of the old Birmingham Corporation Railway. The trail starts in Cwmdauddwr, just west of Rhayader and finishes 13 km (8 miles) further up the Elan Valley at Craig Goch Dam.

A new route to the source has recently been opened. Follow the white waymarkers. When reaching the forest boundary the final section of the Source of the Severn trail is via a stone path which passes through moorland.(7miles, 4.5hours)

The Dyfi Forest is located mainly to the north of the Afon Dyfi between Dolgellau to the north and Machynlleth to the south. Dyfi is a 6000ha forest - a spectacular landscape well worth exploring.
