About

The village of Morfa Bychan is located 2 miles west of Porthmadog and the large expanse of hard packed flat sand allows car access. The bay has a rocky headland at its western end and when the tide recedes you can explore the rock pools, exposed caverns and multi coloured rock face. The area provides a rich feeding ground for various bird species. The beach is popular with kite-buggies and kite surfers and its gentle gradient also attracts bathers.

Because of the ease of access for cars it is a popular spot for picnics and also for motor boats and water bikes which have a special zone designated for their use. Access for disabled people is good. The beach lies within the area designated as the Lleyn Peninsula and the Sarnau Special Area of Conservation (SAC), comprising 3 rocky reefs extending up to 24 km out to sea and home to an amazing variety of underwater landscapes, flora and fauna. The dune system is also protected through its designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Shop, toilets, slipway, parking. Dog restrictions apply April - end September.
