These owner-managed 5-star self-catering cottages provide high quality in both of our attractive two-bedroom stone-built cottages above Abereiddy Beach, on St David's Peninsula in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Situated at Porthiddy Farm West, which has been farmed since at least 1340, our guests can walk about 500 yards through our fields to Abereiddy beach and the Blue Lagoon; walkers can enjoy 180 miles of coast path.
Each of our two cosy cottages sleeps 4/5 people and they can be combined to provide a spacious four-bedroom, three-bathroom home. Our Visit Wales 5-star rating confirms the quality and comfort offered in these characterful farm-buildings. Pine floors and oak stairs set a traditional atmosphere. If you are seeking an active holiday by the sea and in the countryside, wanting to appreciate wildlife, discover ancient geology, or wishing to relax in quiet surroundings, this is the perfect place.
Old cottages built for fishermen and workers at the slate quarry can be seen at Abereiddy and the old harbour at Porthgain. There, the award winning Shed Restaurant and the Sloop Inn offer good food with another three pubs nearby, and more restaurants in the area.
Bwthyn Hir is a long spacious, single-storeyed cottage that sleeps four people. The cottage is entered from the seaward side into an open-plan living area with wooden floors, sloping ceiling and stone walls. An antique pine partition divides the sitting-dining area from the well-fitted kitchen including dishwasher, freezer, fridge, washing machine and dryer, cooker and microwave oven. The large bathroom has a full suite with bath and separate shower. The two bedrooms overlook the farmyard garden, with a double bed in one room, and two singles in the other.
Ty Canol is a light and spacious cottage set on two floors and sleeps four or five people. The large kitchen provides the heart of a Welsh home. The butler-sink, wooden table, chairs, cupboards set a traditional atmosphere accompanied by a comprehensive range of modern equipment, including a dishwasher. A comfortable sitting room, and a downstairs bathroom with a full suite that includes a shower over the bath, lead off the entrance-hall. Here also the oak stairs wind up to the second storey where there are two attractive bedrooms, one with a double bed and a single bed, and the other with two single beds. There is also a room upstairs containing a shower, WC and wash-hand basin.

Porthiddy Farm Holiday Cottages can be reached by road. Cars may be parked on a gravelled area beside the front doors of both cottages. Bwthyn Hir. The cottage is entered through the front door over a low sill at the base of the doorway. This single-storey building provides spacious ground-floor accommodation with wooden floors throughout. At the front and back doors of the cottage, the mat-wells are flush with the floors; all doorways are wide enough for wheel-chair access. There is a step down from the backdoor on to a paved area within a stone boundary wall. This area overlooks the farmyard garden and forms a wide path which leads along the back of the cottages to a gate beside the road. The cottage is well lit with natural light and artificial lights. External lights illuminate the parking area. The sitting-dining area has a dining-table, four dining-chairs and comfortable armchairs and settee. Here, there is an audio-player. a television with teletext, a video and DVD player. A wide entrance is created alongside an antique-pine partition that leads into the kitchen-area. Wooden work-surfaces are set either side of thje Belfast-sink and the free-standing cooker with double oven. The fridge, freezer, dish-washer and washing-machine are all set below these waist-high counters. From the kitchen, a wide corridor provides access to a large bathroom, comprising a bath with integrated grip-handles, wash-hand basin, toilet and a corner-shower with one step into its tray. Down the corridor, a large bedroom allows access around the double-bed. Further along that corridor there is a spacious twin-bedded room. Both bedrooms overlook a garden. Ty Canol. This two-storey cottage is similar in style to Bwthyn Hir, having spacious rooms, wooden floors, and good natural and artificial light. Good mobility is required to move between some of the different levels on the ground floor and on the upper floor. The oak stairs wind around a central column without a banister. A television with teletext, a vi deo-player and a DVD player are situated in the sitting-room; there is an audio-player in the kitchen.
