Not only is Neath a great place from which to explore Swansea Bay, especially the surfing haven of Aberavon Beach, it is within a short drive from the Brecon Beacons and the huge range of activities available there. The town is also at the heart of the Neath Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty that is often referred to as Waterfall Country. Within the valley lies Afan Forest Park which boasts several mountain biking tracks, as well as Gnoll Country Park, an 18th century landscaped garden full of wildlife and the historic Aberglasney Estate.

Within Neath there are a wealth of cultural activities to enjoy. The Little Theatre and the Princess Royal Theatre provide performances of everything from panto to opera, whilst the Pontardawe Arts Centre runs an exciting programme of exhibitions and activities. Neath Castle and Neath Abbey are not to be missed either, their stone edifices bring the rich history of Neath to life. Not only is Neath is a wonderful place to go to it is also a great place to come from, famous children of Neath include Richard Burton, Katherine Jenkins, Hugh Dalton and Bonnie Tyler.

Neath railway station is on the South Wales main line from Cardiff to Swansea.
